Guarantee

This is a written agreement to pay a debt, which is owed by a third party. The debt must be set out in writing, and signed by the third party guarantor, in order for it to be enforceable. It is common for directors to be requested to provide guarantees, to secure lending to limited companies. Third parties may also guarantee the debts of their associates.
