Insolvency Practitioner
This is a qualified authorised person, who specialises in insolvency. Commonly such an authorised person is an accountant or a solicitor. An insolvency practitioner is authorised to act either by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, or by one of a number of other recognised professional bodies. All of the formal insolvency procedures set out in this glossary can only be carried out by law, by an insolvency practitioner.
